When you say the word "beer" to the typical American male, he
pictures in his mind a straw-yellow liquid, served ice-cold, with
between 4 and 5 percent alcohol by volume. This beer style originated
in Bohemia and was the first widely mass-produced in the United States.
Basically an alcohol delivery device, its purpose is to produce a
standard buzz at a consumption rate somewhat higher than can be
tolerated with wine or harder spirits. By limitting consumption to one
bottle an hour a typical male can maintain a blood alcohol level below
illegal driving levels, while maintaining a "sports buzz".
